StreetMod Designs specializes in restoration and customization from sheet metal fabrication to mechanical repairs on full build projects to basic services on classics vehicles.
We are growing and looking for a Hot Rod Fabricator who has the same passion about cars and customer service as we do. Position Summary
The Hot Rod Fabricator is responsible for designing and shaping custom metal pieces for vehicles. You will perform rust repair to ensure a sound body.
Position Responsibilities
The Hot Rod Fabricator will have the following responsibilities, but is not limited to:
- Weld metal using TIG and MIG welding processes
- Accurately design and fabricate body panel parts
- Creating custom parts for rust repair, chassis builds, engine swaps, etc.
- Shape sheet metal using English wheel, planishing hammer, and bead roller
- Efficiently and accurately perform vehicle repairs
- Make appropriate recommendations to ensure safety and reliability of customer vehicles
- Communicate with management to obtain needed parts, advise of additional problems, and obtain approval on repairs
- Document work performed by typing notes and taking pictures
- Must be accurate and time efficient with repairs, handle multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet deadlines
- Be willing to be trained and/or work on different repairs besides fabrication when needed
Position Requirements
This is job ideal for someone who is creative, accurate, dependable, adaptable, flexible, detail oriented, achievement oriented, and have a high stress tolerance. The Hot Rod Fabricator should have a team player and self-starter mentality alongside the love for classic and custom cars. Furthermore, this job is ideal for someone who has customer service top-of-mind at all times as well as being able to talk and interact with customers and teammates in a professional manner.
All applicants must pass pre-employment testing which includes a background check and driving record check as well as a on-site skills test.
- Required 6+ years of professional fabrication experience with TIG and MIG
- Must be currently employed or previously been employed at an automotive shop for 3+ years
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License
- Must maintain a safe driving record during employment
- Proficient in geometry and reading measurements
- Basic computer typing and navigation skills
- Proficient in professional automotive electrical diagnosis and repair with minimal supervision
- Basic computer navigation skills or show ability and desire to be trained on these skills
- Must be able to provide own tools and toolbox
- Must be able to start within 2 weeks of hire
Preferred Skills and Expertise
These are only preferred skills and experience in addition to the requirements. Not having these will not disqualify someone from the position.
- Classic car experience a plus
- Mechanical experience a plus
- Shop-Ware experience a plus
- CAD software experience a plus
- Experience in operating a CNC plasma
Physical Requirements
- Ability to handle physical requirements majority of the workday, including, but not limited to, repeated bending, stretching, twisting, and lifting up to 75 pounds
- Work in tight spaces as dictated by the vehicle's needed repair
- Be able to work with tools on vehicles lifted above their head
- Have the needed dexterity in order to efficiently use hand-tools, power tools, and equipment
